The Way

"But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you..." Luke 6:27

Jesus' instructions to his disciples on how he wants them to live are a hard word. Do we in fact love our enemies and all the rest? And what about grace for those of us who, unlike Jesus, fail miserably in this? What does it mean to follow Jesus along The Way?

Tuesday 15/2/21. We eat together at 7pm (byo dinner) and then we will dig into this frightening, inspiring, moving passage at Chalice - Northcote UCA

Blessed are the poor

Then he looked up at his disciples and said:
‘Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.
‘Blessed are you who are hungry now,
for you will be filled.
‘Blessed are you who weep now,
for you will laugh.
‘Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice on that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven; for that is what their ancestors did to the prophets.
‘But woe to you who are rich,

Here I am, send me

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I; send me!" Isaiah 6:8

What would it mean to be a prophetic presence in our community?

Join us on Tuesday 1/2 at 7pm to talk, pray, and eat dinner together.

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you

Now the word of the Lord came to me saying,
‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
and before you were born I consecrated you;
I appointed you a prophet to the nations.’
Jeremiah 1:4-5

How is God calling you?

Tuesday 25/1, our first proper week back, will be Caravan - our monthly contemplative communion service.

We eat together at 7pm, and worship more formally at 8.

Read more about Caravan here.

Welcome to 2022

We will begin the year informally with a get-together. Probably down the pub, but that might depend on the COVID situation. Hit us up for details.

Also: Happy Epiphany!

Love

In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. Luke 1:39-40

Again and again in Scripture we come up against the vital importance of the women. Mary is the exemplar of the disciple, with her whole-hearted "yes" to God. The women who went to the empty tomb on that first Easter Day became the first to proclaim the faith.

Join us on Tuesday 14/12 at 7pm for our final proper session for the year as we join with Elizabeth and Mary in their mutual love and rejoicing.

Gaudete (Rejoice)

Surely God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid, for the LORD GOD is my strength and my might; he has become my salvation. With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation Isaiah 12:2-3

Traditionally this week is known as "gaudete" Sunday - rejoice Sunday. Jesus is near to us, As the prophet Isaiah wrote all those years ago: God has become our salvation.

What does the salvation of God look like in our world, and in your own personal context?

Tuesday 7/12/21 at 7:00pm. Bring your own dinner, and the serious bit kicks off at 8pm.

Peace

In the fifteenth year of the reign of Emperor Tiberius, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was ruler of Galilee, and his brother Philip ruler of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias ruler of Abilene, during the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness. He went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah,
‘The voice of one crying out in the wilderness:

Discernment and Discipleship

The world is baffling. A million different choices confront us all the time. How do we decide what to do? Sometimes it's fairly straightforward when it is a choice between a good and a bad thing. Sometimes it's a bit harder - a choice between two goods.

This Tuesday 23/11/22 Anne Pate, our Missional Spirituality Pastor, is going to be leading a session on discernment, using the Ignatian Tradition as a framework. Anne is a trained Spiritual Director within the Ignatian tradition, as well as a qualified Professional Supervisor.

Reign of Christ

Pilate asked him, "So you are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice." John 18:37
